A stay-at-home mother of two in the Portland, Oregon area, I find I have a lot of free time during which I write, keep a 200 sq. ft. garden, crochet, and remodel my home. All while dodging a 15 yr old girl and a 5 yr old boy.

Baby Alex has arrived!!

Here we are a few hours after he was born.

This shot was taken when we first got home on Thursday morning.

This is my favorite, just after he was born, under the warmer while the nurses get ready to weigh him.

Ok, so actually he arrived on the 29th of October, but give me a break, I've been exhausted.

He weighed in at 8 lbs. 3 ozs. and was 20 inches long. He's happy, healthy, and (thank goodness) not colicky.... yet. He's been a really good baby so far and hasn't really given me any trouble, with the exception of having a bit of a challenging time with nursing.

THE FOLLOWING MAY INCLUDE GORY DETAILS!!!

For those who want to know, because there's always someone who wants to know, my labor was fairly quick.
After being 5 days overdue I decided to get checked by the midwives to see if I qualified for an elective induction. At 4 pm Tuesday I was 4 cm dilated and the induction was scheduled for 7 am the next morning... so of course that meant I would go into labor before that. By midnight I was having contractions 5 minutes apart and woke Aaron up to take me in to the hospital. When we got there I was at 6 cm, two hours later I was at 8 cm. That's when they broke my water, but it didn't help at all, I stayed at 8 cm until 4 am, and my contractions slowed down to almost nothing. At about 4:30 they started a Pitocin drip, which picked up the contractions and got me the rest of the way to 10 cm. Alex however, had other plans, he refused to move out, and pushing him took much longer, and was much more difficult than I had expected. Especially since my previous experience having Mina had not prepared me for having to work so hard, or be in so much pain. I was a mess, but Aaron and my midwife were awesome. At 6:13 am he was born and I got all stitched up, and got to see my new little baby boy.

Now I'm not one to brag... but I have it on good authority from several sources that he is quite possibly THE most beautiful baby ever. :)
Aaron and I agree, even in the first few moments after birth we were both surprised by how good he looked. None of the conehead, wrinkled, bluish look for our boy.
