Devil Hunter Ariel

i don't know, i am apparently not creative enough to come up with anything tonight. maybe tomorrow will be better.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Portland Metro, Oregon, United States

A stay-at-home mother of two in the Portland, Oregon area, I find I have a lot of free time during which I write, keep a 200 sq. ft. garden, crochet, and remodel my home. All while dodging a 15 yr old girl and a 5 yr old boy.

Pout.

No really, POUT.

Mags isn't coming down this weekend.

Here I was, all excited, I was even going to shave! ;)

He doesn't have the gas money this weekend, I offered to cover it, but that kinda goes against the grain of our mutual decision to have him be the sugar daddy, rather than me be the sugar momma. Damn.

Oh well, I'll spend my weekend catching up on sleep, and pouting.

On the bright side, that means there will probably be an overload of posts from me this weekend. I post when I get bored.

I've been Reading up...

...on Satan's blog, of all the silly things. He's an odd fellow, let me tell you. But I felt I should shamelessly plug his site by sharing the best drunk story EVER. I couldn't resist, the guy's got a way with words.

Gotta go, the wonderful world of work is calling.

Tickles

Despite my waking up at the ass crack of dawn and deciding to start my day, things didn't go so great after that. For one thing the Dark Prince himself has begun frequenting my blog, not that I mind the attention but it's not exactly something I was looking forward to discovering at 5:30 in the morning. Oh look the devil has been reading my blog.. and he's commenting!
After this I got to work at 8:30 and screened people for about an hour before my voice started to give out and I ended up dashing from the screening booth in the middle of screening a new donor, coughing up a lung and praying for someone to just kill me and put me out of my misery. Once I got ahold of my lungs and put them back where they belonged I went out for a cigarette. I have a feeling that that new donor probably won't be coming back anytime soon.
I downed a single-serving packet of KFC honey I found in the bottom of the break room fast-food-condiment basket, and got a lot of crap about it being an old wives tale that honey is good for a cough. Old wives my ass, I didn't cough like that again all day once my throat was coated in sweet gooey goodness. Tomorrow I'm bringing in a bottle of honey and a box of my throat coat tea. That ought to put a stop to that obnoxious little tickle in the back of my throat.
on the bright side of things I clocked ten hours of work today and Patti and Madonna have finally finished fighting over me and I can start training next week, however... (there's always a stipulation, isn't there?) since there won't be any free time for me to start my reading during my regular shifts I will be popping in on my days off to read for a few hours. No more free time. EVER.
Except sundays.
Anyway, i should get to bed since I'm probably gonna pop awake at 5:30 again tomorrow.
G'Night.

It's 5:30 in the Morning

I'm feeling better,, but my cold got into my lungs and I woke up a few minutes ago coughing. So I'm sitting here at 5:30 in the morning blogging in my underwear and drinking more orange juice. I think I might even get something else on and go outside for a cigarette in a minute.

WHY THE FUCK AM I UP AT 5:30 AM!!!

sorry, just had to get that out.
i might just get lucky enough to see Mags twice within a ten day period, his event this weekend may be getting rained out and if it is he's thinking about coming back down here instead. Yay. It's just amazing how much you miss sleeping next to someone even after only a few times, despite the fact that you have gone years without sleeping next to anyone at all.

I Have a Code in My Nose

I'm so sick, this is my punishment for enjoying my day off yesterday. I called in sick to work today for the first time since I started there. I felt really bad, not just because I was sick but because I knew I was letting my co-workers down by staying home.
I definitely would not have survived work today though, although I'm starting to perk up a bit now. I spent the whole day in bed, either sleeping, or reading, or just laying there sniffling and staring at the ceiling. All I've eaten is a handful of salami slices and about 2 gallons of orange juice, and I've only had three cigarettes all day. of course after a day like that I'm feeling pretty good, if my nose will stop running and my ears will stop feeling like they are crammed with cotton, I will feel great (which means I'll be smoking more again, which in turn will make me feel crappy again). It's a good thing I'm a quick healer though, I should be fine by tomorrow morning and be up and off to work bright and early.

Beck Don Juan

I almost forgot to mention the fact that my weekend went great. Mags and I went out for dinner, visited with Tammi, then got coffee and dessert before coming home to... um, never mind. I ws having a wonderful time until I ran out of time. It never fails that life intrudes when he's over; I had promised Des I would take her shopping on Sunday, and he had to get home and get some rest before going back to work today. He had to go home. I didn't want him to, he didn't want to. I tried to drag out the morning and pretend I didn't have other things to do, but in the end we said our goodbyes. Damn. That sucks.
Oh well, the good thing is I'll just be happier when I get to see him again, right? That whole absence makes the heart grow fonder thing.
He's such a sweetie though, he always says the right thing, touches... um, never mind again, shares his sundae with me, I just don't think that absence could possibly make my heart grow fonder of him. I'm trying to work out the logistics of going up to his place again in two weeks, I might actually be able to do it too.
For now, I should get back to finishing the book he loaned me so I can return it next time.

Time To Go Girly Again

I go through phases.
Generally I'm a sweatpants and wifebeaters tomboy type, I have wash and wear hair and can't see paying to get it cut. This is one of the reasons that events like getting my eyebrows plucked deserve their own blog posts.
After having spent four months working and not getting much out of it, and seeing as how I've now lost 25 pounds and am still losing, I decided it was time to treat myself a bit.

So I went to buy some new bras and panties, my undies were starting to slide off (without assistance) and my chest kept sinking lower and lower as my bras got bigger and bigger on me.
I'm now down to a 36DD, from a 40DD. So Des and I picked up a few items at Wal-Mart, cute bras, cuter panties, and a couple of freakin adorable (and very girly) camis.

I felt so cute wearing them that I decided to get even cuter, so today during my day off I went down to the local spa and got a manicure and massage. Yes Mags, I let another man touch my back, my very sensitive, responsive back. But I thought about you while he kneaded the knots out of my shoulders. Really. ;)
I also did some not so indulgent things like transfer the title of my car (which I've had since January), buy scrub pants, go to the Monday morning meeting, and get an oil change. But my fingers are pretty my back is relaxed, and I even convinced Bonnie's sister to cut my hair for me last night. I feel pretty today. Now I think I'll go relax in the tub and read a book for a while.

A Little Treat

As I was wandering through the blog world this evening I came across Belle and thought that she was worth sharing with the rest of you.

America the beautiful.

Things Found Only in America
1. Only in America......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.
2. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.
3. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
4. Only in America......do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet Coke.
5. Only in America......do banks leave both doors to the vault open and then chain the pens to the counters.
6. Only in America......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
7. Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.
8. Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.
9. Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.
10. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Menage a Trois

Apparently there has been a stir of interest in my threesome activities that i need to make some sort of response to.

Zilla I will gladly give you details as I am not ashamed of my behavior in any way, and look back on those days as learning experiences. I learned not to have threesomes.

Des, you know about one of them but not the other one, and the details haven't ever really been shared with anyone.

The first one was when I was 18 and living in Spokane with my best friend since middle school, this my hiatus after the fallout with James and my normal clique of friends (the homeless kids). I got a job working with my friend, Janette, at the local Cinnabon. We worked there with to other people who we were friends with, Jake, and his girlfriend whose name I've forgotten in the intervening years. It ended up that Janette was sleeping with Jake behind everyone's backs. One night they asked me to join them, and for some damned reason I said yes. Basically it was lousy sex that I felt bad about afterwards, she was totally straight so there was absolutely no girl-on-girl action. Just a guy fulfilling the wet dream of his life. That was one of the primary reasons she and I are no longer friends.

Menage a trois deux.

Dylan and Antigone... I'll talk about it later.
For now, Mags is here, and Bonnie's doing my hair, gotta go. ;)

Lori Likes Me! She Really Likes Me!

Here's what fineartist wrote about me while she was freaking out about her lack of internet last night and her addiction to bloggers.

"I jones when I can’t get into Ariel’s blog to read more of who she is. To hear her matter of fact musings, told with a twist of ornery humor. To feel her never give up attitude, and how she makes the best of every situation."

Ain't she sweet? I'm so glad to hear that people are enjoying my musings. I do it all for you guys anyway.

If I didn't have readers there would be no point in writing.

I've Got Nothing

Honest to god I have nothing, not a damned thing to write about. But I feel I owe it to those of you who keep checking during the day to see if I've posted yet.

There, now I've posted.

I'm watching Hitch right now, and last night I watched Diray of a Mad Black Woman. I usually just watch movies, but sometimes there will be a line in a film that just makes sense to me, and I add it into the pile of Ideas in my head. Like in Jerry MacGuire, when he says "you complete me". Yeah it's totally cliche now, and a really pathetically sappy line even the first time. But it makes sense. Everyone wants to find the one person who can make them feel whole, like there's nothing missing in their lives, someone who fills the emptiness in them. In Diary there's a line where she's talking about rebuilding her life after her divorce and she keeps saying "I find myself smiling more, I find myself enjoying the small things, ....." then she realizes, and says "... I found myself." After all those years in her marriage, being his wife, acting the part, doing everything to make him happy, she finally discovered who she really was. It reminds me of Runaway bride too, when Julia Roberts's character fianlly sits down and tries every different kind of eggs to figure out which one is her favorite. She finally discovered who she was, without a man. Personally, I'm with her, eggs benedict are the best ever. I think about this kind of lame stuff while I'm watching movies, sometimes I'm cynical about it, sometimes I'm sentimental about it. But I know that I will never be those women, because I already know myself, I know what I like, what I don't, and no man will ever change that. It makes me glad that I didn't get married to the first guy I fell for, or stay with my baby's daddy for her sake, if I had I wouldn't be me because I never would have gotten to know myself.

Anyway, that was deep. I need to get more sleep. Listen to me babble.
night.

Bawling my Little Eyes Out...

I just can't stop crying.

Lilo&Stitch 2 is the saddest movie since My Girl!! So sad.
*boohoo*
It even made Mina cry, which I kinda think is a good sign. I'm kind of amazed that she can empathize with a movie character at 6 years old. Last time I checked she was completely detached from the emotions of the characters on TV. It's sort of like her painfully slowly developing sense of humor, I'm sure that as she gets older she'll get as sharp a wit as the rest of my family has, but for now her humor is a lot like watching paint peel while trying to be funny.

Life's Tough Little Questions

1. How tall are you?
-- 5 ft 5 inches

2. Do you own a gun?
-- No! But I know how to use one.

3. Rehab? Counseling?
-- Not now, not ever. If I can't fix it on my own, it doesn't need to be fixed.

4. Have you ever killed an animal?
-- I plead the fifth. I thought it was already dead, but yes, I killed it.

5. Are you Irish?
-- Hell yeah I am, that's where I get my devilish charm, and donkey-like stubbornness from.

6. What do you think of hot dogs?
-- Can't stand them, corn dogs are cool tho.

7. What's your favorite Christmas song?
-- The little drummer boy, it makes me cry.

8. What is your favorite smell?
-- Depends on my mood, sandalwood, rose, or citrus.

9. What do you prefer to drink in the morning?
-- White chocolate mocha with hazelnut and whipped cream. (I do nothing by halves)

10. Do you do pushups?
-- I did once. But not lately, no.

11. Have you ever done ecstacy....
-- No. Thought about it though.

12. Have you been shot?
-- No.

13. Have you ever been hospitalized?
-- Yes. For pregnancy, but that's about it.

14. Do you like painkillers?
-- No, I prefer to avoid medications when possible.

15. What is your secret weapon to lure in the opposite sex?
-- I'd say my tits, but that's not exactly secret. If i told you my secret weapon, I'd have to kill you.

16. Do you own a knife?
-- Several. Kitchen knives, daggers, swords, you name it.

17. Do you have A.D.D?
-- What was that? I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. (Um, I don't think so, but sometimes I wonder.)

18. Do you love the pain a tattoo brings?
-- Yes. I like to watch. And I'm a 'tough' girl, and that's just sexy in my book.

19.Name Five Drinks You Regularly Drink:
-- Water, Mochas, pepsi, Coffee, Rum and Cokes (very similar to Des's list, isn't it?)

20. What's In Your CD Player?
-- Nothing. But my playlist right now has everything from Shawn Colvin to Bobby Darrin. I've been on an oldies kick lately.

21. What's Under Your Bed?
-- Again, if I told you I'd have to kill you. Honestly, a tool box, a vibrator, a bag of condoms, and a bottle of Kama Sutra Oil of Love in strawberries and champagne flavor. Now, prepare to die.

22. Current Hair?
--Brown, with traces of previous hair dyes.

23. What are you wearing?
--My boots, my favorite jeans, my boobie improving bra, and a clingy black shirt with a low neckline. I'm leaving the house today, so I actually bothered to wear something other than my scrubs.

-- Money. Also, my schedule for the week, which is kinda hectic.

25. Current Love?
-- Greek food

-- Hammer dulcimer

30. Favorite Colors?

35. Color of most clothes you own?
-- Black, Blue.

37. What do you wear when you go to sleep?
-- My birthday suit, 99% of the time.

38. What were you doing 12AM last night?
-- Watching Diary of a Mad Black Woman with Bonnie, and blogging about pirates.

40. Are you paranoid?
-- Nope.

41. First piercing/tattoo?
-- piercing: 8 years old. Tattoo: 18 years old, for my graduation.

42. Last person you yelled at?
-- Neva. I had to wake her up this morning cuz she had a bad headache, but she also had things to do.

43. Latest crush?
-- Um, how many times can I plead the fifth in one hour? It's Mags, what can I say the guy's endearing, and he makes my insides tingle in a very good way.

44. Last thing you ate?
-- Breakfast was coffee with lots of cream and sugar, two fried eggs and some badly overcooked bacon, since then I have eaten one dolma.

45. If you could be a pirate, would you?
-- Hell yeah, I'd be a pirate in an instant!

46. Do you have an iPod?
-- No point, the only time I have to listen to music is in the car and in the house, so I just use the CD Players/computer for my listening pleasure.

47. When and why did you last vomit?
-- That's it, I plead the fifth on all of these!! At Briaroak Bash a few weeks ago after downing enough Black Velvet to gag a horse.

48. What's in your pockets right now?
-- My cell phone, lighter and cigarettes, oh, and a straw wrapper.

49. what color are your bedroom walls?
-- Boring old white, it's a rental, I'm stuck with it.

50. Last thing that made you laugh?
-- My supervisor's antics, Cyndi is the coolest person ever. She makes me laugh a lot.

51. Any pets now?
-- Only my fishies, and the neighbor's cat who thinks he lives here.

52. Inny or an outty?
-- Inny, of course. That's how my mommy knew I was a keeper.

53. Do you have any piercings?
-- Ears only, I know, how dull.

54. If you were a crayon what color would you be?
-- i would be spank me pink! No really, I'd probably be a weird blend of deep calming blue, bright electric purple, and a warm rich brown that reminds you of homecooking. That would be one weird color, but that's me.

55. Have u ever won any awards?
-- So many I can't even name them. The only one that ever mattered was being Salutatorian at my high school graduation.

56.How many TV's do you have in your house:
-- 3, one is hooked to the VCR in mina's room, one is hooked to the DVD player in the living room, and the other one is hooked to nothing and is basically useless in my room.

57. Have you ever sprained/broken/fractured a bone or gotten stitches?
-- yes/no/no/yes- Sprained my wrists many times just out of general clumsiness, and got stitches three times, twice in my head, and once in the hoohoo cuz Mina had a fat head.

58??? No, not 58! 42!!!!

59. If you could pick one person to make out with who would it be?
-- No repercussions? Like in an alternate universe or something? Marshall. In real life, Mags. DUH.

60. What do you think of the person who posted this before you?
-- She rocks my world.

Tags? Anyone who wants to, how's that? Just copy and paste and go to town.

Good Intentions

i had intended to write a long post last night about life, the universe, and everything. About my perspective on the world... but I kinda got caught up in the whole pirate thing. Oops. I even called my sister after blogging to talk piratese with her.
Once a few years back we came up with the idea to go in together and invest in our own pirate ship, the plan was to have cruise lines hire us to raid them and hijack passengers for their own entertainment. We'd have my brother as our five star chef (let me tell you, that boy can cook) and have hired belly dancers and a singing pirate crew. Who wouldn't want to see that??
Anyway, like all of our great plans that we've come up with over the years it never happened. Life just gets in the way of our greatest endeavours.
Previously we had come up with a plan to take inner tubes down the creek at my dad's place, just the two of us, floating down to the sea, with our cigarettes in waterproof baggies, and a 6-pack of Mike's hard lemonade floating along with us. With the inner tubes we could hike over the waterfalls, and have someone meet us down at the coast to camp on the beach.

Whatever happened to those plans? When did we grow up and give up on this kind of thing?

You are The Cap'n!

Some men are born great, some achieve greatness and some slit the throats of any man that stands between them and the mantle of power. You never met a man you couldn't eviscerate. Not that mindless violence is the only avenue open to you - but why take an avenue when you have complete freeway access? You are the definitive Man of Action. You are James Bond in a blousy shirt and drawstring-fly pants. Your swash was buckled long ago and you have never been so sure of anything in your life as in your ability to bend everyone to your will. You will call anyone out and cut off their head if they show any sign of taking you on or backing down. You cannot be saddled with tedious underlings, but if one of your lieutenants shows an overly developed sense of ambition he may find more suitable accommodations in Davy Jones' locker. That is, of course, IF you notice him. You tend to be self absorbed - a weakness that may keep you from seeing enemies where they are and imagining them where they are not.

Damn, I Was Going for Dragon Wings...

phoenix
You are a PHOENIX in your soul and your
wings make a statement. Huge and born of flame,
they burn with light and power and rebirth.
Ashes fall from your wingtips. You are an
amazingly strong person. You survive, even
flourish in adversity and hardship. A firm
believer in the phrase, 'Whatever doesn't kill
you only makes you stronger,' you rarely fear
failure. You know that any mistake you make
will teach you more about yourself and allow
you to 'rise from the ashes' as a still greater
being. Because of this, you rarely make the
same mistake twice, and are not among the most
forgiving people. You're extremely powerful and
wise, and are capable of fierce pride, passion,
and anger. Perhaps you're this way because you
were forced to survive a rough childhood. Or
maybe you just have a strong grasp on reality
and know that life is tough and the world is
cruel, and it takes strength and independence
to survive it. And independence is your
strongest point - you may care for others, and
even depend on them...but when it comes right
down to it, the only one you need is yourself.
Thus you trust your own intuition, and rely on
a mind almost as brilliant as the fire of your
wings to guide you.You are eternal and because
you have a strong sense of who and what you
are, no one can control your heart or mind, or
even really influence your thinking. A symbol
of rebirth and renewal, you tend to be a very
spiritual person with a serious mind - never
acting immature and harboring a superior
disgust of those who do. Likewise, humanity's
stupidity and tendency to want others to solve
their problems for them frustrates you
endlessly. Though you can be stubborn,
outspoken, and haughty, I admire you greatly.

I get to be the Proud Girlfriend Now

I'm very proud of Mags.

Congrats on the promotion again sweetie!

i'm gettin ticked at my manager again (like it's something new). On Monday they promised us that from now on we would get our next week's schedules by wednesday... it's Friday, and when I asked about the schedule for next week I was told it wasn't ready yet and that everyone should show up Monday morning for the meeting with their scrubs on in case they would be working. That sucks ass.
I have an eye exam scheduled that I'll probably have to cancel, plus I may have to work on saturday. If I don't work saturday then I need to get crackin on plans to go up to Mags's place, if I do work then hopefully *wink, wink* he'll come down here for at least one night. So, yeah, i'm a little bit ticked.
i need to get to bed tho, cuz I know I'm scheduled for 7:30 tomorrow morning.

Listening to: Stupid Kelly Clarkson again. What is my obsession with this song. Wait, that's better.. the Rolling Stones.

I actually took the time to do my hair this morning, I don't know what's gotten into me today, usually I just pull it back in a bun and call it good. Today I blow dried it, straightened it, and flipped it around for good measure.
I have to leave for work in half an hour, I probably won't get off until 9. Crappy.
The good thing is that if we can get all of these damned newbies trained this week I can start training to be the Q Backup, which means a raise, and then when I've finished that I can learn the rest of the Quality Supervisor stuff and be given my salary. I'm really hoping this works out because I'm depending on that money. I've fallen so far into debt, I can't even express it. I owe Jen, Neva, my mom, not to mention the two credit cards, and my student loans. I've been paying on everything but the money to Jen and Neva. But at the rate things are going right now, I may never get them paid. Pretty sad since I only owe Neva $54, you'd think I'd be able to cover that much. At least I finally got my mechanic paid, and haven't had any overdrafts lately, so I should be able to pull my shit together soon.
Anyway, I should get to work, bye.

Tales From the Maternity Ward (Men: Beware)

'Zilla has requested that she be provided with tales of labor and delivery.
She's gonna hate me.

I was the perfect pregnant girl, besides being a homeless, penniless teen.
I gained exactly 35 pounds, I never had morning sickness and only puked once during my pregnancy thanks to some bad langustino sausages. I didn't retain water, and only put on weight in my stomach. Hell, my ass is probably still the same size it was in high school.
But worst of all, labor didn't hurt.
My water broke the night of James and athena's wedding, but it broke up top so I just leaked a little. So I decided that a good night's rest was worth it since i was gonna be in the hospital for a while, so I went to sleep, and had Athena's dad drive me to the hospital in the morning. I got there around 9 am with no contractions, very little effacement, and no dilation whatsoever. So they put me on a little pill designed to soften the cervix, and I watched Scooby-Doo for most of the morning. Then they hooked me up to my penicillin drip since my water had been broken for so long. Around 4 pm they finally got me on pitocin to start the contractions, they didn't hurt they just felt like when someone gives you a big bear hug and squeezes the breath out of you. About that time my penicillin drip got clogged and my arm started to burn like mad. (there's a reason they mix your IV with penicillin and water, penicillin BURNS) That was the most painful part of labor. After a while I was dilated enough for them to offer me drugs, I asked for an intrathecal, since I kinda wanted to take a nap before the hard part started. they gave me the intrathecal at about 10 pm, and I ended up getting hyper from it (apparently morphine has a fucked up effect on me). So I used that time to call my ex boyfriend Casey, and after listening to him rattle on about how his day had gone, he finally asked "so what are you up to?". I'm in labor. He responded with "oh shit! I'll be there in a minute, which room are you in?". I had a roomful of people for my labor, including Athena, Jezz, Jamie, Casey, and his friend Tony.
Anyway, basically it took all of three pushes to get Mina's head out, that hurt too, she ripped me. and one more to get the rest of her out. The stupid doctor however, figured that after having my hoohoo ripped in half and only saying "ow" that I was already numb enough not to need anesthetic during my stitches. He was wrong. I felt every stitch with that damned needle, and they hurt, makes me glad I only needed three.
Mina came into this world at 1:03 am. So basically labor only really sucked for me for about two hours. The rest was easy as pie.

See, you all hate me now, don't you? :)

But as they say, easy pregnancy, difficult child.
I am praying for a horrible, miserable, painful pregnancy with the next one.

Another Day in the Life of Me

Had the day off today.
It almost actually qualified as a day off too.
I got up at 6:30 took Mina to school, got home and went back to sleep until 10.
Then I had to get up and do some grocery shopping for the house, and got a few things for Jen too since she feeds Mina so often.
Then I did seven loads of laundry. SEVEN. Our jackets had been in the closets and/or the trunk of the car for most of the summer so I did a load of just jackets.
Since then I have been putting together and figuring out the intricacies of Bonnie's boss's computer, what a pain in the ass. I had to call Chris for some tech support in hooking up the motherboard.
I'm finally finished with it for now, I don't think overheating is going to be problem anymore either. The damned thing is running so cold I could use it as an air conditioner now.

i just have to get an okay on the program upgrades tomorrow, and suggest that the lovely lady may want to further upgrade her hardware. Especially the CPU. Maybe I could actually turn this one into a moneymaker. for now, the bathtub and my bed are calling me... uh-oh, so is Neva now. Later.

Questions to Amuse Des

As I already know Des so well it's difficult for me to come up with five questions that are worth asking and I don't already know the answers to. I will try though.

So Des, here goes:
1.) I know about your past, I have been a part of your present, I want to know about your future. I know that I have had great plans for my life in the past, and I know that some of them I have given up on, and some of them I have achieved when I had expected to fail. Where do you want to be ten years in the future? As detailed as possible, what do you WANT for your life in the next ten years. Then, where do you honestly see yourself in ten years? because we all want something great but often times we know our own limitations and know that we will never quite achieve some of our dreams.

2.) What one person has been the most influential role model in your life, either in a good way or a bad way? Why? How has their influence affected you?

3.) If you were to fall into a meteor crater and be affected by the radiation in it so that you developed some type of superhuman powers, what would they be? What would your superhero name be, and would you be good, bad, or neutral?

4.) List off ten things you've done in your life that you absolutely loved doing.
Then, list off ten things you haven't done in your life but would love to do someday.

5.)The ultimate supercomputer has just been completed, it has all of the knowledge in the universe within it's databanks. You have been chosen to ask it a question, but only one. What will you ask it?

Ain't Neighborly Love great!

Once again I have managed to avoid cooking real food for myself.

Don't get me wrong, I love cooking, but only if there's someone else to eat with me, and praise my culinary skills. I hate actually putting out the effort to make dinner for one. I'd rather microwave a corn dog.
So I got home tonight and informed Neva that i needed to go heat myself up a Hot Pocket, to which she responded that she'd made spaghetti, and I had to help her eat it.
OK.
Then Bonnie asked if I wanted some pot stickers since she had plenty left over and they had already eaten all they could. So I'm sitting here eating spaghetti and pot stickers, and I can save my hot pocket for lunch on Wednesday.

I love my neighbors.

Fabu Weekend

Mags came down this weekend and stayed two whole nights.
He even took care of Mina for me on saturday while I was at work.
Apparently she had a good time since she's already asking when he's going to come back. Although he was a bit of a pushover, but that's okay he'll learn. :)
Anyway, I had a great weekend as usual, and even managed to get my carpets shampooed this afternoon. (Something I've been meaning to do for months.) They were really gross, now they are almost the color that they were intended to be.

I should finish my dinner and get to bed early since I didn't get a whole lot of sleep this weekend and have to get Mina up for school in the morning. Maybe I'll take a bubble bath too, I deserve to be spoiled after getting up early, making a real live breakfast (bacon, eggs, waffles), going shopping with Des, getting my phone hooked back up, cleaning the carpets, and paying my bills.
I need a little down time tonight, I might even read some of my book in the tub like the lazy bastard that I am. :) G'night.

Homework

'Zilla challenged me to answer five questions for her, so here they are with answers:

1) Ariel, sometimes you mention the desire for work pertaining to your hard-won degree. Tell us all about your dream job -- what exactly would you be doing, where would you be doing it, what would you most like and most dislike about it?

My dream job would be research. I see a lot of things wrong with the world and since I'm not much of a mover and a shaker, reading about them and telling others is the best route to changing them for me. I would love to delve into the whys of human behavior, the reasoning behind some of America's cultural drives, and then write about them in a way that would show other people just how backward we really are. I would work from home, and do some travelling to investigate deeper into some areas, interview people on the street, or in their offices. Honestly, I've already done this job, and I loved it. While I was working at Healthy start I was doing these things, except I wasn't being paid for it, and I only had three months to do it in. But I did good work, enjoyed it, and wrote a great research paper about the merits of Early
Childhood Education and Care and Parental Leave benefits. I would most like working on my own schedule and being able to change my work environment regularly. If Mina needs me I can leave my work for later, if I get tired of sitting at the computer I can go do some interviews. I like the variety and self-management aspect. I would not like to try to hunt down the funding for my research. People who have jobs like this don't just fund themselves and then get the royalties when they are published. They have to write grants for funding for their projects and that in itself takes up a lot of time.

Time in which your bills still have to get paid. Time that I just don't have.

2) At some point in your life, you must have had an "ah-ha" moment, a time of life-changing realization. What was that ah-ha moment, and how would things be different for you if you had chosen to ignore it?

Uhhh, how many ah-ha moments do I get to list here?
Ah-ha's:
1) Twelfth grade, sometime near graduation. I don't really think I want to be a veterinarian, despite the fact that it's been my dream since I was like five!
2) One year later. Shit, I'm gonna be a mom. I'm homeless, jobless, broke, and my boyfriend's a jackass. So now what?
3) June this year. I'm lonely, celibate, still a mom, have a worthless degree, and have to move into the job world after spending almost my entire life in school. I'm not gonna go down this way dammit! I'm just too stubborn to give up.

3) An almost all-powerful and slightly psychotic wizard approaches you. He tells you that for the rest of your life your only sustenance will come from one food item. This item will provide you with complete, balanced nutrition, no matter what it is, as long as you eat enough of it to meet your daily calorie requirements. If you eat anything other than this food item, you will be covered with hairy warts and your teeth will all fall out. You have no choice but to select the one food item. What will it be and why?

Who says I'm not already covered with hairy warts and my teeth haven't already all fallen out?
Okay, so that's not true. but I like variety. I would choose bread. As far as variety goes there are many options within the realm of bread products. Although I suppose that I would miss cheese and meat. But some bread has cheese, and/or meat baked right into it. Is
cheese bread allowable, or does it even have to be the same kind of bread all the time? If that's the case you might as well just cover me with warts and yank out my teeth right now, cuz it ain't gonna happen. I need CHEESE and BREAD.

4) According to my therapist (whom I fired), it is an almost universal goal of parents to do better by their children than their parents did by them. Even though you have perfect parents, what is one thing you'll do differently as a parent, and what is one thing you'll do the same (and of course, why, and why)?

heehee, perfect parents?! I sure hope you're kidding.
What I will do the same is easy, I'll treat my kids like adults, not talk to them like they're stupid, but let them know that their opinions and thoughts are as equally valid as my own. And then I'll go ahead and do what I want anyway.
Why? Because nobody likes to be talked to like they're stupid.
What I'd do differently is a bit more difficult.
I would like to do some things differently but I may not be able to because of the whole single-parent thing. I would like to be able to spend more quality time with my kids than my mom did, she left for school before we did when I ws a kid and we came home to an empty house after school. I don't want Mina to be a latchkey kid like I was.
I also want to be able to get her involved in extracurricular stuff, but that involves time and money both of which my mom never had enough of and at the rate things are going I probably won't either.Since my parents were divorced through most of my life and I grew up with each of them separately I should mention that I would raise my kids with an understanding of mind over matter the way my dad did with me. And I wouldn't preach to them my ludicrous conspiracy theories like he does.
Why? Because he's freakin nuts!

5) You sometimes mention your interest and participation in SCA events. Tell us all about SCA: how did you first become involved, what was the primary appeal, and, after your first event, what was it that made you want to do it again?

My first experience of the SCA was in a book, my favorite book. One of the characters was a member and learned swordplay during his time in the SCA. I always wondered after that how to get involved in it, but kinda looked at it as something that people somewhere do that I will probably never be able to hunt down. I never expected them to come to me, especially in Eugene. Then a few weeks before I graduated from high school my dad came home with this scruffy looking guy who he'd met at his lawyer's office. The guy was going through a nasty divorce and needed a place to stay for a while, he was a blacksmith and the fifth best swordmaker in the world. His name was Steelwolf. It turned out that he was in the SCA
and went to nearby events regularly. He told me about Egils (a local event that is usually a great party) but it was the same day as my graduation so I didn't go. A few weeks later, having graduated and having nothing to do with myself I was wandering around downtown and met a group of mallrats who were also in the SCA, one of them (jamie) offered to help make me some garb (clothes) and get me out to An Tir/West War. So I finally got to go to my first event.
Steelwolf drove us out there and I had the best time ever! The primary appeal was the fact that an event is some people's only escape from their boring stressful lives. Because of that they really let their hair down, it's a hedonist's dream come true. There is nothing that has to be done, you can sit on a chair in your camp all day, or you can wander around meeting
people, or you can roleplay, or fight in tournaments, or go shopping in merchant's row. And once it gets dark the alcohol comes out, every drink you can imagine is available, brewer's bring their own homemade beer, wine, and mead. And most of the time everyone is willing to share what they have. an hour after dark everyone is piss drunk, laughing, singing,
and stumbling around in the dark. There are belly dancers, bards, musicians, drummers, actors, storytellers, basically it's like a campground festival.
and last but not least, if you can't get laid in the SCA you can't get laid at all! This is something I've never had a problem with. There is a certain amount of chivalric feeling, and i've had many bed warmers who were perfect gentlemen, but if you want to there is a high likelihood of getting laid.
So why did I keep going back? Isn't it obvious? I also developed many friendships with people from out of town and eventing was one way to get to see them now and then, Mags was one of those friends, and Jamie ended up moving away too but I still see her at events now and then (not that we really get along any more). I keep going back for the sense of community, I'm known there, I'm welcomed there, and I get to wear a really low-cut bodice! :)

My challenge: Use two (or more) of the following words in a haiku:
soliloquy, cleft, feeble, bean, disbosom

Thought I'd make it a bit harder. Good luck. I'll send five questions of my own to whoever sends me a haiku.

Frankenstein returns

Once again my living room is strewn with computer parts.
I'm actually earning a whopping $12.00 for this one.
Bonnie's boss wants to bring her comp out of the dark ages, so she sent it to me and I figured out what the problem was. Told her that she needed a new case, power supply and fan. It would cost about $60. It actually came out to about $48, so I earned a whole $12 for the hours spent diagnosing, tearing apart, and in a few days rebuilding the damned thing.
When are people going to get it through their heads that a shop would charge them damned near $60 an hour for this kind of stuff. They need to start paying me!
(Freebies for my friends are okay, but fixing a business computer for my neighbor's boss is a whole different matter.)

anyway, 'Zilla I haven't forgotten my assignment, I'm working on it. I just haven't quite finished yet.

Heehee, I'm Passionate.

Not really a word I'd ever use to describe myself.

Last one. I twisted Mina's hair up in little buns this morning. This is what she would look like if she were a poodle.

This is our board, the god of my existence. I do what the board tells me. I'm just realizing though that the picture of me below is crap! I look like hell in it. However my face does look a bit thinner than usual. It figures that I'd lose weight everywhere but my stomach. I'm gonna have a sunken shriveled face and still have a belly!! AAARRGHH.

These are Des's letters sometime near the end of the game.

Ben, um, Pawn of Scrabble.

It is I, Ariel, Queen of Scrabble.

And his adorable if half-starved girlfriend, Jessie.

This is my hippie hitchhiker/pothead nephew Taijha.

Mina assists Josh in the complete destruction of Derek.

here Josh attempts to silence derek by burying him alive.

this is derek at the park.

yeah, it's time to bombard you all with more pictures. I'm still a bit snap happy with my camera.

What is my fascination with John Denver lately?

leavin on a jet plane.

Mags is coming down this weekend, good thing too cuz after three weeks I'd kinda started to forget what he looks like. j/k.
I guess he used me as an excuse to get out of yet another event and a party this weekend. I'm totally okay with him telling people that he's got "a needy girlfriend" that he has to come and see now and then. I find it amusing because I don't think any one of my boyfriends has ever referred to me as needy. (i could be wrong though). Jen says I should be careful about him using that line too many times since that's how she got labeled by half Chris's workplace as a "bitch". He kept telling people she wouldn't let him do things, so that he wouldn't have to do them.
I, however, believe that people can think what they want. If they call me a bitch, so be it. I'll just be uber-nice to them until they change their tune.
(That's punishment enough!)
So I think Mags should totally tell them all I said to go suck an egg because he's coming to visit me this weekend. And that's final.

;)

There's A Man in My Bathroom...

Cursing like a sailor.
Gale has finally come to fix the toilet. I had to bribe him with pizza, but that's to be expected.
He thinks he's got it fixed, but the cursing hasn't stopped so I'm guessing that's not the truth.
Hopefully it will be functional again since I reeeeeaalllyyy have to go.
Gale is not a computer literate man. He got a look on his face like a 2 year old who's just discovered they can open the fridge when I showed him that my computer sound comes out the surround sound speakers. He was in awe of my glorious computer smarts.

Oh good, he's done now. No more four letter expletives. I can pee now!

Dear God, They've Done it To Me Again.

Today I received the surprise of all surprises!

They sent me a credit card. A real one this time, not an in-store credit card that you can only use at Target.
I'm so happy! I was panicking about the fact that I couldn't buy Mina any new school clothes, or shoes for PE, or buy tampons and shampoo fercrissake.
So I took Mina shopping. We only spent $113 and got all the stuff for around the house that I've been putting off, and some shoes and clothes for her. We also filled my gas tank, which was getting mighty low considering I have no money and don't get paid until Friday.
This is great, now I don't have to panic so much about unexpected car repairs or overdrawing my bank account to fill my gas tank. Let me tell you if you think $3.00 a gallon is bad, try tacking on a $34 overdraft fee for your $25 in gas. Ouch.
That's one of the main reasons I haven't been able to catch up financially, I keep overdrawing to survive until my next check. Now I have credit, and don't have to worry about those fees so much. (And no, you don't have to worry, I'm good with my credit.)

So anyway, things are looking up now that I don't have to fear bank fees. And it only has a $300 limit, so i won't go crazy, but at least I got some things that we needed for now.

Open House

Tomorrow is the open house at Mina's school, and my first chance to meet her new teacher before she starts 1st grade on Wednesday.
I should have some interesting things to say about Mrs. Plumb since I am a very critical person by nature, although I don't usually have a chance to express it. Plus, I am of the opinion that anyone who will lock themselves in a caricatured room full of bright colors and 30 or 40 children under the age of ten has got to be mentally unstable. So I will be meeting her with the preconceived notion that she's completely insane. This should make for an interesting post tomorrow.

Until then, Ta-ta.

I'd Like to Buy the World a Good Laugh.

Laughter is the best cure and I've never understood how people can get so stressed that things stop making them laugh and start just making them angrier.
Lately I've come to understand it better, my stress level has been through the roof, and I haven't had a whole lot to laugh about.

I don't want to be that person. Thank you all for giving me great posts to laugh about.
Blogging and reading everyone else's blogs has given me the release of tension that nothing else does since I so rarely leave my house and interact with people in a happy situation.

LQ: Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

To Chance:

In case you get the opportunity to read this, Jen filled me in on what's happening with you, so I just wanted to say we'll miss you and I hope everything is okay.
We enjoyed your comments, and hopefully your wife will grow up someday and not be so selfish and negative.
Sorry to see you go.

I'm Not Even Supposed To Be Here Today!

Talk about crappy days.
Not only did we have work today, but we worked so-called "holiday" hours. Let me tell ya they are no holiday for us.
Usually the center doesn't open till 10 on a Monday. Today we were open from 8 till 2, kinda weird since the buses were on Sunday schedule and didn't start running until like 9.
Usually we also have an hour long meeting Monday mornings before we open.
i didn't pick up my schedule on friday before I went home, so I figured that just in case I was supposed to open before the meeting I should get there at 6:30 (8 o'clock-1 hr. meeting-30 min. opening=6:30). If nothing else I'd only be a half hour early.
I AM DUMB.

I got up at 5:30 this morning. Dropped Mina off at Jen's, and picked up some coffee on my way to work. I sat outside in the cold drinking my coffee for about 45 minutes before I decided that something had gone terribly wrong. At 7:15 Shawna showed up since she was the opening phlebotomist, ten minutes later Cindy showed up to open the front. They informed me that there was no meeting today, and I didn't open. I had gotten there an hour and a half early.
So I went in out of the cold for a few minutes while they opened up, then Shaun popped up to ask me if I would drive out to Springfield to pick up Daren (the lab guy) since he was scheduled on at 8, and he rides the bus, meaning he wouldn't be able to get there until at least 9:30.
So with a long-suffering-I-got-up-at-5:30-for-this-crap?! sigh I went to pick him up.
Luckily me and Daren get along pretty well, we drove back to work in good spirits chit-chatting about our kids's schools. I clocked in at 8:08, went up front to find there were two, count'em, TWO donors waiting to be processed. we all piddled around for a while, then cindy took her first break at 9:15, and sent me home at 9:30.

So, in summary, I:
Got up at 5:30 am.
Paid for 3 hours of child care.
Spent my gas to pick up someone else.
Then got sent home after only being paid for 1 1/2 hours of work.

What kinda crap is this?!

The good thing is that I got to come home and take a nice long nap.

What was I talking about?

Oh yeah, last night.
Taking the kids to the park yesterday was a walk in the park. They were really well behaved, even though Des kept freaking out that Derek was going to hurt himself somehow. I don't blame her, you should see that kid run, he looks like all of his limbs are trying to go in different directions and at any second they'll just pop right off and head their separate ways leaving nothing but his trunk and head laying in the sandbox.
Luckily, he neither broke any limbs nor horribly scarred himself during his 2 hours of play at the park.
Tammi can be reassured to know that Josh was also on his best behavior, he was awesome even though we forced his mature ten year old self to play with the six and seven year old infants.
I enjoyed having him with us to keep the other two amused.

Ben made us some kickass shish kebobs for dinner, they were awesome. I just wish we'd made more. And we had a few drinks after the kids were in bed.
For some weird reason I was on a winning streak last night. Des and I played two games of 10,000 at the park and I won both of them. Then we played Scrabble, Yahtzee (twice), and another game of 10,000. Again, I won every one. Finally Des beat me at 10,000. That was the last game of the night... hmm, I wonder if they quit once they had finally beaten me? Anyway, it was just plain weird cuz it's pretty normal for me to win at Scrabble, but not at Yahtzee or 10,000. Hope I didn't just use up all of my good luck for the next month or something.

I had a weird dream this morning about aliens trying to harvest my eggs, I'm hoping that was just the alcohol talking and not something straight outta my subconscious. If it was I'm not sure how to take it, is it my biological clock ticking? Or am I concerned about outside forces affecting my life, or my child's? What does it all mean? Probably nothing. I dreamed about giving birth to a rat when I was pregnant with Mina, and I have lots of dreams about losing her or forgetting her somewhere. I think those just stem from my insecurity about being a good parent, I'm very afraid of being a bad parent. But I haven't forgotten her anywhere yet, tempting though it might be at times.

I am Jack's complete and utter disbelief.
I actually managed to clean my house today. It was getting out of hand, I really need to rent a carpet cleaner though cuz my carpets are hideous. There's just nothing like a dark cream color to perfectly highlight every stain. The rest of the house is clean though and I feel a lot better about other people coming near it now.
What a relief. I have to get to bed early tomorrow since Neva's gonna give me a 5:30 wakeup call. That'll be fun. So i should go kick Mina out of the tub and put her to bed so I can take a shower.

Last Night, Talkin Bout Last Night.

I've come to the conclusion that I need some quirky little thing like Des's song of the day. I have decided to incorporate a Ludicrous Question of the Day. Much like the yogurt question.
Just the thing to showcase the absurdity of my life.

LQ of the Day: Why do old people shrink?

Potty Woes

My toilet still hasn't been fixed, Gale is nowhere to be found. I think he might be hiding from me.
Can't say I blame him either.

9/02/2005

It's 11:30, Why Am I Still Here?

My toilet is broken.

I noticed it a while ago, it's making a weird hissing noise, like a sickly snake.
I tried flushing it, but it wouldn't flush. Why? Because the tank wasn't filling. Why wasn't the tank filling you ask? Because there's no water going into it. Huh? Yeah, my thought exactly. The water is turned on under the toilet, it's running in other parts of the house. It just isn't getting from the wall faucet to the tank.
I am completely at a loss. I think I may actually have to call Gale tomorrowto fix it.
This is a rare thing. My property manager and I are on very good terms because I bake him cookies and don't ask him to do stupid stuff like change my light bulbs for me. He likes the fact that I can fix most of the stuff around my house without needing him, with the exception of anything that involves power tools since I don't own any.
I have had to call him for repairs three times in the past 2 1/2 years. Every time it was because of the kitchen sink. The first Christmas I was here it started leaking on Christmas eve while I was defrosting a turkey. The second Christmas the same thing happened although it was two days before Christmas. Then this summer one of the seals broke and it started spraying water all across my kitchen. Gale was relieved that it happened during the summer, figuring that this meant that I wouldn't be calling him during his Christmas vacation this year. I guess he was jumping a bit ahead of the game, cuz now I have to call him again about the toilet. And with my luck the sink will go out again over Christmas.

Poor Gale.

I'm going with Des to take a pile of kids to the park tomorrow. Maybe I'll have something exciting to report then. For now, there's nothing good on TV and I'm gonna try to read some more of my book that I've been reading since May. It's been slow going, plus I put it down to read the Bruce Campbell book and Harry Potter. Maybe I'll finish it some day.
G'Night.

Basic Training

They are supposed to start training me for the Quality Supervisor position next week some time.
Yeah right.
Today they had me training a new donor processor, even though I'm not a certified trainer, and Patty was discussing having me certified so that I actually could do it without getting into trouble.
I don't want to train people to do a job that I don't even know that well, I'm really not a very good teacher. I have very little patience with people when they don't understand what I am trying to tell them. My trainee today, Alyssa, wasn't too bad but I could have done without her "I-already-know-all-of-this-stuff" attitude. It's annoying when you try to teach someone and they don't pay any attention because they think they already know it all.

Speaking of knowing it all, bonnie has a pointless question for everyone:
Why do they put the little colored dots up the back of yogurt containers?
(Get a yogurt container, you'll see what I'm talking about. Especially Yoplait.)

Lime Pepsi Ain't That Bad.

really.

Actually it's kinda good.
Just thought I'd tell you all.

3,000

WooHoo!!

I hit 3, 000 site hits last night!
I'm so excited, people like me! They really like me!!

Anyway, just thought I'd share, now I'm off to work.

Home Life

my family, my family.
So there I was sitting in a circle of family.
Me, nephew Taijha, his girlfriend Jessie, stepmom Jackie, my dad, sister Angie, neice Tara, Angie's friend Christina, nephew Zeke and back to me. Taijha, Jessie, dad, Tara, and Zeke are all passing around a bowl (that means pot). Me, Angie, Christina, Tara and Zeke are all chain smoking (that means cigarettes).
This was the scene for one of the most brilliant things my daughter has ever done.

Earlier Angie had asked her to fill up her water bottle and Mina, being the little angel that she is was very helpful. So when Angie ran out of water again and couldn't get either of her kids, or her friend, or me to go get her more, we called Mina out to help her.
Mina was very obliging, although it took her a while since she can't reach the faucet without the help of a chair. Then Angie took a big drink of her water, and handed it to Christina who also took a big drink.

Then they both spit it out. SPPPLRLRSSHH!!
The water bottle had bubbles in it. Mina had decided to fuck with them and show them who's boss by adding dish soap to the water.
I don't think Angie will be asking her for favors anymore.
We all ended up laughing so hard we cried.
That child of mine... she sure does fit in with my family.
Poor Christina kept asking why she hadn't ever thought of doing it before, she seemed terribly disappointed to be out-practical-joked by a 6 year old.

That was the high point of my evening with my family.

The low point was finding out that Tara's dad was found not guilty of doing some very bad things despite the fact that all the evidence showed that he did do them. I think Angie's finally seriously considering moving out of Ashland, she just doesn't think the kids will be safe there anymore, especially since he got off scott free after she tried to charge him. He's gonna try to make her life a living hell. Better if she just leaves and starts over someplace new where he can't hurt them anymore.
I hope she can get past this and get on with her life, for her sake and the kids's.

anyway, good night for now, love you all. Ta-ta!
